Jane Annixter was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 22, 1903. Her father, also a writer, introduced her to writing at an early age. Her father influenced the commonplace objects subjects of her early writings, and later of assigned readings that allowed written expression and reading to become an important part of her life. Jane Levington Sturtzel (1903-1996) and Howard Allison Sturtzel (1894-1985) were American authors of children's books under the names Jane and Paul Annixter.
